Belgian Bun from Greggs

First review and we're slightly disappointed to be honest.

Whilst the icing of this Greggs offering was a reasonable thickness and covered the bun well it was quite brittle and tasted very much of citrus; not a pleasant citrus flavour rather it was bitter and artificial.

The bun itself tasted plain and quite bread like and had a harder texture than we would ideally have wanted or expected. The sultanas were also quite sparse.

The glacé cherry was pleasant enough but is unable save the Greggs Belgian bun from a slightly disappointing BBBB score of 6 out of 10.

Belgian Bun - the facts.

A Belgian bun has no claim to being Belgian at all in reality. Whilst they are clearly a bun there is no evidence to suggest they evolved in Belgium, unlike a Belgian beer...

A Belgian bun is generally round, brimming with sultanas and covered in luscious icing, topped with a shiny red glacé cherry.

Perfect with a cup of tea or as a finisher to a meal the Belgian bun is a Koninklijk sweet bun.

Belgian beer is some of the finest in the world and needs very little introduction to those who enjoy a fermented yeast drink!
